I'm excited to be attending and presenting at the 2024 Massachusetts Art Educators Conference. I will be sharing a "user friendly" template that teachers can use to guide their students in authentic, and sophisticated written responses to art. This structure will prime in-depth discussions. When diverse perspectives are brought together, new thinking can emerge and from that new thinking, change becomes a possibility. Teaming with a colleague and mentor we embarked on a four year journey of research and fieldwork in the topic of Ekphrasis, an ancient Greek practice of connecting art with written work. Our research aims to connect the artist and the viewer through the shared experience of viewing, thinking and responding to art. We believe engaging with Ekphrasis fosters humanity. Ancient Greek culture connected art to writing (Ekphrasis). Participants will leave with a friendly, systematic approach ready to guide students in writing about their observations and ideas about creative works. Session: introduction, guided practice, and discussion.
